Warm Up: What do you know about the treatment of African-Americans from 1860's (after slavery) until the 1960's (before the Civil Right's Act)?
How were African-Americans treated at this time?
Classwork: Compare and contrast the Scottsboro and Tom Robinson trial.
Description-Read the text for each trial. Create a three column chart and answer the questions in the center column: 1. who vs who? 2. Describe the jury. 3. What are the defendants accused of? 4. Who defends the defendants? 5. What is the outcome?
Compare- Create a "top hat" chart. List the differences of each trial. In the bottom strip, list the similarities. 
Conclusion- Answer the following questions: what has happened to justice in the trials? why? and who demonstrates moral courage?
