Warm Up: Write sentences by adding a subject and a predicate to each fragment.

1.       After the homecoming dance

2.       A thoroughbred horse

Guided Practice:  Review of how to find a complete and simple subject and predicate. New notes on compound subjects, compound verbs, and compound predicates.

Independent Practice: Numbers 1 and 2 on page 22 in the mini-grammar packet

Journal: Free write

HW: #’s 1-12 on page 22 of mini-grammar packet

Warm Up: What is the definition of Etymology? What are the two parts of etymology needed for this section in the vocabulary square? See previous class for relevant notes.

Independent Practice: Vocabulary squares for the next 5 SAT words: Sequester, Specious, Sophist, Spurn, and Subservient. Finish at least two squares in class.

Journal: Free write

HW: Finish vocabulary squares if you have not done so in class. If you have finished, you have NO HOMEWORK.
